Apple Watch Series 11 Evaluation: Excellent Gesture Control and Extended Battery Performance

The newest smartwatch 11th generation delivers the one thing the majority actually want from a smartwatch: improved power endurance.

In other aspects, this latest version acts as an immediate successor to the Series 10, keeping pace in appearance, dimensions and features, with many of improvements originating from software.

This new model furthermore £30 cheaper for UK customers, available from 369 pounds (449 euros/$399/A$679), placed higher than the recently updated Watch SE at £219 at the low end and the £749 Ultra 3 for top-tier users.

Design and Display

Similar to the previous Series 10, the new model comes in at 9.7mm thick, resulting in a slim fit when worn, easy to sneak beneath shirt sleeves and more comfortable during sleep.

This 2,000-nit interface offers excellent visibility for seeing in various lighting, remaining clear when viewed from different angles, which makes taking a peek at the time or notifications straightforward.

The surface features by glass that is significantly more durable as before, although not as hard of sapphire crystal, that's only available on the pricier titanium models.

Performance and Battery

The new watch features equivalent S10 silicon from the previous generation but now supports optional 5G and improved connectivity for those times away from civilization.

Energy storage demonstrate growth in size significantly with the smaller and larger versions in that order.

Bigger version managed an impressive two days during evaluation featuring overnight analysis when not used for fitness.

Most people will just about be able to track two full days with overnight use until recharge becomes necessary, which takes 66 minutes using a 20W or more powerful adapter (sold separately), achieving around 70 percent in half an hour.

If you do engage in exercise, it will last approximately eight hours while recording, which is long enough for a marathon or extended activities.

Operating System Updates

The latest device ships with watchOS 26, compatible with each iteration since the sixth generation and subsequent.

This includes recently introduced Liquid Glass design, resulting in most elements somewhat see-through, and adds fresh interface options: a large digital face titled Flow reacting to motion and an analogue face titled Exactograph, which breaks out time components into individual displays.

The standout addition involves wrist movements, requiring swift turning your arm outward and reversing to close applications and go back to the watch face.

It works even without raising your wrist to view the screen, enabling wearers to stop notifications with a satisfying flick with your hand.

Health and Fitness Tracking

The wearable device incorporates a complete wellness tracking package of capabilities found in earlier versions but adds a couple of new features and a redesigned fitness program.

High BP warnings check for symptoms of hypertension through extended monitoring, notifying you to seek medical advice when pulse information suggests you may have a hidden problem.

Updated sleep scoring makes Apple's sleep tracking more straightforward to analyze, like other brands from Google, Samsung and others.

Every day the screen presents a numerical rating divided into categories in three sections: duration, bedtime and interruptions, which are all straightforward and viewable through the wellness application on your smartphone as well.

Exercise companion is an AI coach employing your past activity records to deliver motivational messages around exercise sessions, like detecting that you have already run regular activity patterns and the level of effort you put it.

It also provides spoken alerts when you reach particular goals while working out, such as a particular pace, pulse rate, distance, duration or other metrics.

Options include from three speaking tones, providing audio feedback over Bluetooth headphones paired with the device for multiple workout categories, such as walking, jogging or biking.

Unfortunately, functionality requires if you have with you recent smartphones alongside, proving inconvenient enough that I would forgo this capability eliminating hassle bringing phones during exercise.

Green Initiatives

The manufacturer states energy storage maintains more than 1,000 full charge cycles maintaining 80 percent of its original capacity with replacement available at £95 cost.
