The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward entry for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the national team for their first match on June 10, 2028.
The English side are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Opening and Protest
The event was unveiled at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for the Israeli team to be kicked out from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Placards were held up with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Timeline
The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.
Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will attract family audiences and help connect with a broader range of fans.
Participating Countries
The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the standard process.
Stadiums and Knockout Stage
The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.
The draw for the qualifiers will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
Tournament Vision
“The event will be a championship for the fans and a showcase of everything we cherish about the game – its passion and ability to foster unity.”
In excess of three million admissions, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
