The Three Lions Bring Back Saka But Bellingham, Phil Foden & Grealish Are Left Out

Bukayo Saka in action

Bukayo Saka has scored a dozen goals in 44 caps for England.

The national side have included the Arsenal winger for next week's matches versus Latvia and Wales, but there is no place for Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden or Grealish.

Arsenal forward Saka missed the previous World Cup qualifying successes against Andorra and Serbia due to a muscle problem.

The 24-year-old made a comeback for his club and scored in their victory over Olympiacos on Wednesday.

The England international replaces Arsenal team-mate Noni Madueke, who is sidelined until November because of a knee problem.

The Three Lions face the Welsh in a warm-up match at Wembley this week before a World Cup qualifier in Riga on 14 October.

If England win in Latvia, they will require a just two more points from their last two qualifiers against Serbia and Albania in November to qualify for the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah comes in for Newcastle's Livramento, who is out for up to eight weeks following suffering a knee injury versus the Gunners last weekend.

Anderson and Spence, who received their first England call-ups previously, retain their places. Loftus-Cheek also remains in the squad, even with the return to fitness of Adam Wharton.

The attacker has only played a single match for the manager since taking over as national team boss, due to injury concerns.

Bellingham missed the previous squad as he recovered from a shoulder operation and has only made a single start for his club since returning from injury.

Foden was left out from Tuchel's last England squad after a loss of form and has been unable to force his way back, even with a impressive beginning to the campaign with City.

The forward also misses out despite a revival in form on loan at Everton. The 30-year-old has not featured for England since October 2024.

'Scrutiny on those left out rather than included'

The manager’s latest England squad draws attention on those the boss has omitted instead of the included names.

Bellingham’s omission may cause surprise but Tuchel believes there is no need to bring back the Madrid midfielder.

Manchester City's Phil Foden and on-loan Everton forward Grealish have both excelled in the early stages of the season.

The players the manager used in England's qualifying victories versus Andorra and Serbia merit the chance to continue.

There will be disappointment that the Gunners’ Madueke is not involved because of a fitness issue.

Anderson has looked right at home at England senior level.

The England boss is a admirer of Grealish, in particular, as well as the City star.

One unexpected move, it is the exclusion of Palace’s Adam Wharton.

Bellingham, of course, will be required further down the line.
